Framatome signed a services contract for a period of five years for the digital Instrumentation and Control (I&C) system of EDF's Flamanville 3 EPR reactor, during the World Nuclear Exhibition 2023. The contract covers in-service support for the I&C protection system.
The Flamanville 3 protection system uses Framatome's TELEPERM XS platform developed specifically for the nuclear industry. The protection system continuously monitors the reactor and shuts it down if predefined thresholds are crossed.
"We are pleased to have concluded this services contract with EDF and proud to contribute to the production of safe, competitive and low-carbon energy in France," said Bernard Fontana, CEO of Framatome. "The Flamanville 3 EPR incorporates recent advances in nuclear safety, and Framatome's TELEPERM XS I&C system is a reference in state-of-the-art technology."
The services contract includes maintenance for systems, equipment and skills, the monitoring and processing of hardware and software obsolescence, the maintaining of qualifications, technical support services, and on-site interventions.
Framatome's digital TELEPERM XS platform has been installed or is currently being installed in 92 reactors in 17 countries worldwide.
The Flamanville 3 nuclear power plant has one 1,600 MW EPR pressurized water reactor in the pre-operation phase. It incorporates all recent advances in nuclear safety, the reduction of environmental impact, and technical and economic performance to supply safe, competitive and low-carbon electricity. Framatome is assisting EDF with the construction and commissioning of Flamanville 3.
